What is Linux ?


  • Linux is an Operating System 
  • Linux was created by Linus Torvalds when he was an undergraduate at the University of Helsinki, Finland in 1991.

    You can create many user accounts on a Linux System and also have multiple users logged in and working on the system at the same time.

    Linux provides a powerful framework for working with graphical applications, referred to as the X Window System.
  • Hardware Support
    You can arrange help for almost all types of hardware that can be linked to a PC.
  • Networking Connectivity
    Linux provides many ways to connect your Linux System to a network.
  • Network Servers
    Linux provides many different server applications, such as Apache Web Server, Sendmail Mail Server.
  • Application support
    Most GNU software from Free Software Foundation will run in Linux. Also, there is a wide range of freeware and shareware software available for Linux. (GNU stands for GNU is Not UNIX)
